Trinidad is the larger and more populous of the two major islands and numerous landforms which make up the island nation of Trinidad and Tobago.  It is the southernmost island in the Caribbean and lies just 11 km off the north-eastern coast of Venezuela.  With an area of 4,768 km2 it is also the fifth largest island in the West Indies.

My ride around Trinidad will be a little unique as it will be the only island I plan to cycle on.

La Brea Pitch Lake – The Pitch Lake is the largest natural deposit of asphalt in the world, located at La Brea in southwest Trinidad.  The lake covers about 0.4 km2 and is reported to be 75 m deep.  Pitch Lake is a tourist attraction that attracts about 20,000 visitors annually.  It is also mined for asphalt.
