Passion Projects

Besides pedaling there are a few things I hope to personally experience and do along the ride.

Trees

Even back in the days of successfully turning a childhood hobby into an amazing business I would tell people that I still didn’t know what I wanted to do when I grew up.  Fast forward over 10 years later after many little seeds planted along the way (no pun intended) I discover that I have an amazing passion for trees and to have and see trees planted.  I have come to realize that when it comes to beauty, clean air, climate change, home and protection for many many animals and renewable resources that few things in the world can solve so many of mankind’s problems as trees.

Upon the completion of this bike ride I actually plan to start a tree farm where I have a home and some land in the country of Belize.  My dream is to start a tree farm in Belize to help reforest rainforest and jungle in Belize.  The Mahogany tree is a species of special interest to me.

In the mean time while I pedal I wish to engage and learn about trees and reforestation from different conservation organizations and people that are living and working in many of the different countries I plan to ride through.  I plan to blog and document many of these experiences.

Garbage Collection

I know, gross, unfortunately some people seem to think that that there are armies of people that follow them around (secretly) and that these peoples job is to pick up their litter after them.  Either that or those people believe themselves unaccountable for their actions. It’s unbelievable how much litter is out there and I will simply find it impossible to not spend some time to clean some of it up.  In fact I plan to pull a trailer behind my bike so that I can spend a little time each day to pick some litter up and have the ability to tow the garbage to a proper trash can.

At the end of the day I want a greener and cleaner our planet.

Sea Turtles

Who doesn’t love sea turtles? I have only ever seen one sea turtle in my life out in the sea way far away from the boat I was on.  I can only imagine seeing them up close.  So upon entering Mexico and continuing through Central and South America  I plan to visit as many sea turtle nesting sites as possible – season permitting (nesting or hatching).  Just the thought of this experience has dying to start pedalling south right away.

My love for animals and wildlife has me also planning to visit some different zoos along the way and to search out and hunt for certain species of reptiles and amphibians in the wild such as river turtles, tortoises, anacondas, boas and frogs.
